Student responses to our Partner Class's art: NICARAGUA
We are very excited in receiving the art from your students. We are amazed at the talent you have. Thank you for putting the time in to complete these detailed pieces to depict your culture.
First, when we looked at the pieces, we noticed some similarities between our cultures. In Carlos's picture we noticed the t.v., the Christmas tree, and the decorations inside the house. These are very common in our culture as well. In the others, we made note of the mountains and again the decorations inside the houses.
The next aspect we discovered was the jungle like scenery in Jose's picture. That is very different than what we are used to. We live in the desert. Although we have trees, it doesn't look as green as your pictures.
Also, we realized in viewing the artwork that family seems to be important. It is in our culture too.
We were surprised to see the jungle-like environment, and that houses are close to it. Is that dangerous? Also the houses were made out of bricks. Are all houses made out of bricks?
Some individual remarks:
To Carlos,
We love your colorful pattern in the border of your house. We liked the way you used different shapes and patterns. We also liked that you watch t.v. and celebrate Christmas like most of us.
To Gustavo,
We enjoyed seeing your mountain scene. It looks real because of its green color. We also liked the light colors you chose. It looks like early morning. You have clear skies like us.
To Jose S.,
We really liked the use of primary colors. The blues made the rest of the picture "pop" out. We also liked the row of trees. Is that a windbreaker, or is a river close by?
To Jose A. S.
This was an excellent piece. We were amazed at all the details you put in the picture. It is realistic, bright, and colorful. We also liked the wall that the boy is standing behind. We also liked the palm trees because we have palms in Arizona.
To Arlen,
We really liked your vibrant colors and the use of flowers. It seems as though you have a very clean and neat house. We also noticed from your picture that you are wearing a dress. Do all girls have to wear dresses? Your room looks like a nice place to be.
We think that Nicaragua is a beautiful place to live. Do you all have any city buildings? It seems that the land and family are very important.
Questions for our class:
Do you all grow your own food?
When you go to school, do you have a dress code?
What types of animals do you see everyday?
What types of food do you eat?
Does it rain a lot?
Do you all have power/electricity in your homes?
Do you have fast food restaurants?
School questions -
How do you all learn with the different ages?
What do you learn?
How long does a school day last?
