We received a huge package from our partner class in Chengdu, China! Not only was there art, but every child in their English class also made a personal poster and wrote a letter in English. My class of 32 sixth graders (age 11-12 years old) was very impressed. They especially enjoyed reading about the Chinese students' likes and dislikes.
After we sent our art off last November, we studied about ancient China. We tried making bamboo in the traditional Chinese style.
I really liked the theme this year. It was simple, but translated in so many different ways around the world. It was one that the kids easily identified with. Of course, here in Los Angeles, everyone thinks of the beach and surfing when it comes to water!
